STANDARD 9 & 10: GRAPHING QUADRATIC EQUATIONS
How to graph the parent function of a quadratic: http://www.virtualnerd.com/algebra-1/quadratic-equations-functions/graph-parent-function.php
Vocabulary
Parabola: The u-shape of a graph (up if a is positive, down if a is negative)
Axis of Symmetry: The vertical line (x = #) that splits the parabola in half. The equation is x = -b/2a
Vertex: The point (x, y) where the parabola originates. To find it: (-b/2a, substitute x into equation and solve for y-value)
Maximum/Minimum: The highest or lowest point on a parabola. The y-value of the vertex.
Roots/Zeros/x-intercepts/solutions: Visually, where the graph crosses the x-axis. There can be 2 roots, 1 root or 2 imaginary roots.

Graphing in Standard Form
Standard form: f(x) = ax2 + bx + c
How to:
1. Determine if graph opens up or down
2. Find the axis of symmetry and sketch it in (x = /b/2a)
3. Find the vertex (-b/2a, substitute x-value into equation and solve)
4. It may also be helpful to solve and find the roots (using a method from st. 8)
5. Sketch it all out!

Graphing in Vertex Form
How to:
1. Graph the vertex point (h, k) **remember the sign of h is different than the sign that is in the equation!
2. Determine if the graph opens up or down *use a!
